SmarterSafer Coalition Advocates Pre-Disaster Mitigation in Western Caucus Foundation Panel Discussion

Washington, DC – May 1, 2024 —At last week’s Western Caucus Foundation’s conference in Lake Tahoe, SmarterSafer Coalition Executive Director Chris Brown highlighted ways to empower the communities in the West to make environmentally responsible and fiscally sound decisions that best enhance wildfire safety in their states. During the panel, which focused on insurance access and challenges for rural America, Brown advocated for better land-use practices, meaningful investments in pre-disaster mitigation and public-private partnerships to pave the way for fiscally responsible policies.

“As a coalition committed to resilience and sustainability, SmarterSafer is proud to have contributed to the crucial dialogue at the Western Caucus Foundation panel,” said Brown. “By discussing equitable access to insurance, collaboration with the private sector and the importance of pre-disaster mitigation, we are working towards a future where our rural communities are better prepared, and our natural resources are safeguarded.”

The Western Caucus Foundation (WFC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to educating law and policymakers about the cultural and policy issues unique to the American West, including individual and private property rights, state and local government influence, utilization of natural resources, and economic growth. SmarterSafer is grateful for the opportunity to participate in the conference.
