Land Core Joins SmarterSafer Coalition to Advance Agricultural Disaster Resilience
New affiliated organization brings expertise in soil health and agricultural risk reduction to the coalition’s disaster resilience efforts
Washington, DC – October 28, 2026 – The SmarterSafer Coalition announced Wednesday that Land Core, a nonprofit organization advancing soil health policies and programs, has joined the coalition as an affiliated organization. The addition brings agricultural expertise to SmarterSafer’s efforts to advance proactive disaster mitigation, fiscal responsibility, and a more comprehensive approach to community resilience.
“Healthy soils play an important role in helping farmers manage risk and strengthen resilience,” said Aria McLauchlan, Co-Founder & Executive Director at Land Core. “We’re excited to join SmarterSafer and work alongside organizations that share our commitment to practical, cost-effective solutions that protect farmers, communities and taxpayers.”
Land Core is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on advancing soil health through research, federal policy and market-based incentives. The organization is developing an actuarially sound risk modeling tool to quantify the risk-reducing benefits of agricultural practices such as cover cropping, reduced tillage, and diversified crop rotations. The goal is to help lenders, insurers, and policymakers better recognize these benefits and create incentives for farmers to adopt practices that strengthen agricultural resilience.
Land Core’s work aligns with SmarterSafer’s longstanding commitment to targeted risk reduction before disaster strikes, through cost-effective prevention efforts. Its expertise in innovative, ecosystem-driven risk management brings a cutting edge new perspective to the coalition’s efforts to strengthen preparedness and resilience, while protecting taxpayers from the costly cycle of disaster and short-term recovery.
“Building stronger communities starts with reducing risks before disasters strike,” said Chris Brown, Executive Director of the SmarterSafer Coalition. “Land Core’s work demonstrates how scientifically sound, soil health-focused land management cuts down on risk, while protecting American farmers and agricultural capabilities. We’re pleased to welcome them to the coalition and look forward to working together to advance smarter disaster resilience policies.”
About SmarterSafer
SmarterSafer is a national coalition that is made up of a diverse chorus of voices united in favor of environmentally responsible, fiscally sound approaches to natural catastrophe policy that promote public safety. The coalition believes that the Federal government has a role in encouraging and helping homeowners to undertake mitigation efforts to safeguard their homes against natural disasters. At the same time, the coalition opposes measures that put people’s lives at risk at the expense of taxpayers. Measures such as subsidizing artificially low rates for homeowners’ insurance policies help to encourage construction in environmentally sensitive and unsafe areas. The coalition is working to ensure that Congress does not incentivize people to live in harm’s way in places prone to hurricanes and floods.
